Ms. Nanouk Cancian began her career as a lawyer in 1999 at Schoute & Dik Advocaten, Amsterdam, a commercial litigation practice. Here she soon focussed on employment law and decided to join the boutique firm Boontje Advocaten in 2002 to become an employment law specialist.Since May, 2014 she is lawyer/ partner at Avocare Arbeidsrecht in Haarlem.

Avocare arbeidsrecht has a broad based practice and advices clients from various sectors (finance, ICT, automotive, construction, hospitality, catering, temporary employment and retail industry). Nanouk Cancian gives advice on, and frequently conducts legal proceedings into, (collective) dismissals, employment conditions and benefits, collective labour law, employee participation, transfer of undertaking and flexible labour relations.

In cooperation with mediators and career coaches Nanouk also provides advice in employment conflict situations.

Nanouk Cancian is main editor Employment Law for SDU Guidance and publishes in Dutch legal journals such as ‘TAP’ and ‘Arbeidsrecht’. In addition, she also writes for the e-magazine ‘Aan de Slag’.

As the founder of a Labour Law network and a peer review group she keeps in touch with specialized lawyers working in private practice and in-house. Members meet up regularly and keep each other informed of new developments in the field of Dutch employment law. Nanouk is a member of the Vereniging van Arbeidsrechtadvocaten Amsterdam (VAAA) en de Vereniging van Arbeidsrecht Advocaten Nederland (VAAN). She completed the postdoc ‘Postacademische Leergang Arbeidsrecht’ in 2003 (cum laude) and 2014 at Erasmus University in Rotterdam.
