Nanouk Cancian

Nanouk is a versatile lawyer specializing in labor law. In her advisory and litigation practice, she works for small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) as well as (inter)national companies. Her clients come from various sectors, including financial services, retail, hospitality, ICT, construction, science, and the temporary staffing/secondment industry. She represents works councils and assists employees in management positions, statutory directors, and expats.

Nanouk has over 20 years of experience as a lawyer. Since ten years, she has been a partner at Avocare Employment Law.

Nanouk knows the business world from the inside. She proactively thinks along with her clients by looking beyond just the labor law or legal question.

Clients appreciate her personal, analytical, and practical approach. She combines this with solid substantive knowledge of current legal matters.

Reorganizations

Nanouk has guided various companies through their reorganization processes, both as a lawyer and in the role of dilemma counselor. In this capacity, she supports employers by advising and informing the affected employees about dilemmas such as voluntary departure, overlapping collective labor agreements, and the interpretation of the social plan. Nanouk also has experience serving as chairperson of committees for social plans.

MfN Mediator

In March 2024, Nanouk completed her mediation training at Kyden in Bussum.

As an MfN registered mediator, she guides participants in business and employment law disputes. She provides a professional and trustworthy environment where work can be done confidentially towards an acceptable solution for all parties involved.

Supervisor of Intervision

Nanouk is a registered intervision supervisor with the Dutch Bar Association (NOVA) and the Association of Labor Law Attorneys in the Netherlands (VAAN). She facilitates intervision meetings for professionals, where participants discuss personal dilemmas they encounter in their daily work in a group setting.

Complaints Committee

Nanouk regularly serves as chair or member of complaint committees.

Solid legal knowledge

Nanouk studied Dutch law at Utrecht University and completed the Post-Academic Course in Labor Law with honors in 2003 and again in 2014 at Erasmus University in Rotterdam. She was sworn in as a lawyer in 1999 and has worked at Boontje Advocaten in Amsterdam, among others.

She is a member of the Amsterdam Association of Labor Law Attorneys (VAAA) and the Association of Labor Law Attorneys Netherlands (VAAN). In addition to her work as a lawyer, Nanouk is a core editor for the digital product Sdu Opmaat Arbeidsrecht +. Nanouk is the initiator of a labor law think tank with 16 participating lawyers and corporate legal advisors. The participants take turns inviting professionals to speak on various topics and keep each other informed about current developments in labor law.

She has registered the following areas of law in the register of legal fields of the Netherlands Bar Association:
Labor Law (Collective Dismissal, International Labor Law, Works Council Law)

This registration requires her to earn ten continuing education points each calendar year according to the standards of the Dutch Bar Association in each registered legal field.
